Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) Peasant woman... - Lot 43 - Ader
Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) Peasant woman under a tree. About 1895-1900. Zinc print. 123 x 140. Delteil not described; Cailac (revised edition of Delteil, Alan Wofsy Fine Arts, 1999) 195. A very fine proof on cream vellum. All margins untrimmed [248 x 163]. Very rare. Ex-coll. H. M.Petiet (Lugt 5031). { The Cabinet des estampes has the plate engraved, and even carved, by Pissarro, since the metal is carved like wood, the drawing having been reserved, perhaps with a varnish (...) Thus this plate would date from the time when Camille collaborated with his son. On the reverse of the plate there is a sketch of a peasant at work, in the spirit of the studies for Les Travaux des Champs. It is possible that this research dates from the holidays Lucien spent in Éragny in July-August 1895, during which the plans to work together on Les Travaux des champs took shape..." (Catalogue of the exhibition at the Bibliothèque nationale, 1974, quoted by J. Cailac).
