France, very late 18th c. or first quarter of 19th c. 520 pp. fine dark brown ink writing, text ruled in pencil, table of main articles, decorated title page . Bound in full marbled tan calf, smooth spine (restored), small fleurons and gilt fillets on the spine, double cold fillet on the boards, blue speckled edges (restorations; some spotting). Dimensions : 215 x 160 mmUnpublished texts : puns, anagrams and songs . Manuscript, a priori unique and original, of Albéric Deville (1774 (or 1773?)-1832), whose anagram was "Cerilli de Belval", was a doctor by training, a time professor of natural history in Auxerre and editor of works including the botanical writings of Rousseau. He was very involved in the erudition related to the department of the Yonne. The Bulletin de la Société des Sciences historiques et naturelles de l'Yonne (1861) lists among Deville's manuscripts the present "Amphigouri" (p. XXXIV). (p. XXXIV). The amphigouri is a figure of speech, text or drawing voluntarily obscure or unintelligible with burlesque aim. By extension, it is used to qualify a confused and incoherent text, which is then pejorative, close to "galimatias".
