Dimensions : 220 x 158 mmUnique collection designed and enhanced by the jeweler of the Shah of Persia . The different models of medals and decorations of the Orders of the Lion and the Sun as well as other military and civil decorations are shown. Ismael II, jeweler of the Shah clearly states his purpose: "I Ismael II, jeweler of H.M., have written this book to make known to everyone the conditions that must be met to be honored with the various orders of the Lion and Sun ... " The decorations were awarded by decree by the Shah of Persia on the proposal of the Minister in charge of the examination of titles . The individuals to whom these marks of distinction were conferred received medals and decorations, several of which are represented in this album. The decorations shown are divided into seven series: general, military, civil, science, industrial arts, foreigners, and the last one named "Decoration of the Sublime Portrait" with the portrait of "Our Lord Ali" in the center, enriched with diamonds: "H.M.I. attaches it on the left side of the chest". The military decorations show the lion standing with its sword, while the civil decorations show the lion lying down without the sword. The decorations fall under the Imperial Order of the Lion and Sun which was established in 1808 by Fath Ali Shah Qajar (1797-1834) to honor Major-General Malcolm and to respond to his gift of the "potato. As Malcom refused the first "Order of the Sun", equating it with France, he was presented with a sunset lion with the titles of Khan and Sepahdar in 1810, and received knighthood honors in 1812. The order, which is composed of three classes, is a prize of honor offered to foreigners who have rendered important services to Persia. Muslims are not eligible. In 1836, Mohammed Shah Qajar (1808-1848) made changes to the decorations, particularly in the ribbons used in this manuscript: this allows us to suggest a probable date of circa 1836. Subsequently, numerous modifications were made to the decorations and conditions of attribution of the Order which became obsolete in 1939, then was reborn under the Pallavi dynasty (1925-1979) as the Order of Homayoun. These Orders were abolished with the Iranian Revolution in 1979.
