Spain, Cadiz, 1824-1826, [1] f. + 178 pp. + [1] f., cursive writing in ink, folding map showing the plan of the "Bay of Cadiz" drawn in ink and dated 20 January 1824 . Romantic binding in blue-night morocco, gilt spandrels on the four corners of the boards, gilt fillet on the boards, smooth spine decorated with an ornamental design, inner scroll, gilt edges. Hardback case with the same ornamental pattern as the binding (case damaged; some rubbing to the binding). Dimensions : 175 x 115 mmThe author of this manuscript addresses his sister Caroline in epistolary form and proposes to tell her about his life in the garrison in Cadiz where he stayed from 1824 to 1826 . He shares with her his study of the country, its inhabitants and its customs. He shows all his affection and attachment to his sister. The expedition to Spain in April 1823 had been led by France in order to restore King Ferdinand VII of Spain to the throne. The work is finally presented under the title "Reverie of a soldier in Spain" where it is question of friendship between two men Edmond and Alfred, on bottom of war of Spain, mixing reverie, phantasmagoria, illusion, dévergondage of the imagination.
