Outin ended up imprisoned on the English pontoons of 1806 and 1814, the subject of the second part of this manuscript. At the end, there are copies of various letters, some of which were sent from the pontoon Sultan in 1813 or from Suffolk by Pierre Outin. The French frigate Le Président was built according to a 1802 plan by Pierre-Alexandre Forfait. She served in the French Navy from 1804 to 1806 before being captured by the Royal Navy in 1806. Pontoons were used for disarmed warships - that is, in maritime parlance, ships without any means of navigation, which in this case meant the removal of masts - and were anchored near the coast. The prisoners were piled up there in large numbers, the advantage being that a small staff was sufficient to keep an eye on the prisoners.
