Anton Prinner (1902-1983)

Star-woman and hands. (Pl. for La Femme tondue, Paris, A.P.R., 1946). Unpublished variant. Copper engraved with etching and burin. 95 x 155. Beveled, the corners rounded.

The same subject was engraved on zinc and is the version published in the book (see Ader sale of December 16, 2020, no. 322). Our copper seems to offer a more roughly engraved version, which would not have satisfied the artist, who would therefore not have published it.

Note: at the request of the artist's successor, Madame Monique Brillant-Tanazacq, this copperplate by Prinner has been crossed out with a small drypoint stroke in the lower left corner of the subject.
