Jean COCTEAU. Typescript with autograph dispatch and autograph date, Lettre aux Américains, 1949; 48 pages in-4.

Typescript of the Lettre aux Américains, written during the trip back from New York, where Cocteau had presented L'Aigle à deux têtes. The typescript is dedicated to Aymée Grasset, the wife of his publisher Bernard Grasset: "to Bernard's dear wife who reinvented this letter by reading it to her and listening to her read it to him. With all my heart Jean Cocteau". At the end, Cocteau wrote the date in his own handwriting: "Paris-New York (Air France) January 12 and 13, 1949. Some passages have been marked with lines or framed, perhaps for publication of excerpts in a magazine; some marginal notes concerning arrangements or corrections are perhaps in the hand of Bernard Grasset, who published the Lettre aux Américains that same year, 1949.
