The name "Scutari" appeared at the end of the nineteenth and beginning of the twentieth century in the literature in reference to the Istanbul neighborhood of Scutari, now Üsküdar, where these velvets were made, and not to the Albanian city of Scutari, now Shkoder. For another example of Scutari velvet, see A. J. B. Wace, "The dating of Ottoman Velours" in Burlington magazine for Connoisseurs, Vol. 64 N° 373, 1934, pl. II - A.
