Polylobed cartouche tile, Turkey, Iznik, first half of the 16th centuryLarge siliceous ceramic tile with painted cobalt blue and turquoise decoration under transparent glaze on a white background. Polylobed cartouche in the center flanked by two half-medallions, all three furnished with scrolls with palmettes and surrounded by floral stems, two friezes of scrolls of rosettes in edge. 27.6 x 20 cm Restoration, missing edges and chips . A hexagonal half-tile, Iznik, 2nd quarter of the 16th century, decorated with fine floral scrolls around a central rosette in cobalt blue and turquoise on a white ground. 23 x 14.5 cm; important restorations. A similar tile from the Zeyrek Çinili Hamam in Istanbul is in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, under inventory number C. 10-1953.
