The ascetic, Iran, 20th century, in the Safavid... - Lot 270 - Ader
The ascetic, Iran, 20th century, in the Safavid styleGouache and gold on paper representing an ascetic kneeling near a fire at the foot of a tree, wrapped in a long cloak, a book in his hand and that two servants come to restore a bowl of pomegranates. Inscription in ink of the number "3500" in the sky. Framed under glass. 28,3 x 17,5 cmSmall folds, stains. In its subject matter and treatment of the ascetic, this painting is reminiscent of a drawing entitled "Unusual Assembly" in the Metropolitan Museum in New York (1979.461). Both are inspired by the series of Safavid drawings of "seated dervishes" produced at the turn of the seventeenth century, such as the drawing 1974.0617.0.3.84 in the British Museum in London or the dervish in the Keir Collection (K.1.2014.159) on deposit at the Dallas Museum of Art. A Safavid style painting with an ascetic, Iran, 20th century
