Qalamdan pencil box with the Sacrifice of Ibrahim, Iran, late 19th century. Oblong format, made of papier-mâché painted in polychrome and lacquered, with the sacrifice of Ibrahim on the top and characters in conversation or in full work (milking a cow, breaking a donkey, preparing meals) on the sides. Length: 23 cm; chips. A small mirror case cover made of papier-mâché painted with a character in a landscape on one side and lacquered on the other, Iran qâjâr, early 20th century. 12 x 9 cm; revern. The iconography of the sacrifice of Ibrahim, an episode dear to both Muslims and Christians, is known on other lacquered qâjâr objects such as a Qalamdan sold at Ader, on 25/11/2021, lot 205, or a box from the Khalili Collection, no.
