Gold maticha earrings with enamel and stone cabochons, Morocco, probably Rabat, late 19th - early 20th century Gold, almond-shaped case. The hinged lid with openwork quatrefoil decoration enhanced with enamel, the face decorated with cabochons of colored stones. Surmounted by a hinged attachment with green cabochon and green stone topped by a pearl suspended in pendeloque at the base. Total height: 11.4 cm; weight: gold 750/1000: 31 g; gold 585/1000: 4 g Attachment changed later. Lot co-expertised with Vanessa Soupault. For similar examples with stone inlaid decoration on one side and enamel on the other, see the 1981.5.16 pendant in the Metropolitan Museum, New York, or the pair in the Musée du Quai Branly, Paris, under inventory number 74.1961.10.53.1-2. It is suggested for the latter that the case integrated into the pendant could contain hair strands or perfume.
