A brilliant and mysterious pupil of Gustave Le Gray, Firmin-Eugène Le Dien traveled to Italy several times. He produced a series of views of the Roman countryside, using the dry wax paper technique, during a stay with Léon Gérard in 1852-1853. Gustave Le Gray, who probably did not travel with Firmin Eugène Le Dien, probably printed the prints made by the latter.
