Nikifor KRYNICKI (1895-1966) Interior of a church Watercolor. Annotated. (Consolidated tear, probably original). 25 x 16 cm Provenance: Gilden Gallery, London. We thank Mr. Bogdan Karski, a great enthusiast of Nikifor's work, for identifying and authenticating the work. Among the annotations, we can read words like "poniedz(ialek)" (Monday) and "post" (fasting) which correspond to the subject of the painting. According to the tradition of the Lemkos (the minority to which Nikifor belonged), the faithful are separated into men and women. The style of this painting allows us to date it to the 1920s.
