[REVIEW] - JARRY (Alfred) - GOURMONT (Remy de). L'Ymagier. Paris : L'Ymagier, October 1894- . - 7 issues in-4, stapled. Set of the first 7 issues out of the 8 published of this famous illustrated literary review founded by Alfred Jarry and Remy de Gourmont. Each issue is illustrated with numerous compositions outside and inside the text (popular imagery, prints, woodcuts, lithographs) by Armand Seguin, the Douanier Rousseau, Alfred Jarry, Paul Gauguin, Richard Gheym, Maurice Delcour, Georges d'Espagnat, Émile Bernard, etc. This illustration forms the heart of the magazine, as Remy de Gourmont points out at the head of the first issue: "Next to and below printed literature runs the oral river, tales, legends, popular songs. There is also the popular imagery, today synthesized in the factory of Epinal, yesterday flourishing in thirty cities, but especially in Troyes. This imagery, loose leaves or pages of booklets, is known by archaeologists and some amateurs: it is, primarily, our subject, and all the rest, in the Ymagier will come only by surcroit, ornament, source, object of study or comparison " (pp. 6-7). Copies on ordinary paper, complete with the required illustrations and plates, except for the lithograph "La Guerre" by Henri Rousseau in the second issue. The first issue has the correct October 1894 cover, and the Mercure de France advertising brochures are found at the end of issues 1 and 2. In general, the covers show tears, especially on the edges and sometimes on the spine, as well as soiling and some pitting . The most damaged is that of the sixth issue, with missing edges and large tears on the second cover. Due to the poor quality of the paper, several leaves are crumbling, especially in the sixth issue. Cover of the first issue turned up, traces of wetness on the edges of the first leaves of the same issue. Tear without missing the second picture of Epinal of number 3. Restored tear to the first leaf of issue 4.
