GAUDIN (A.). Practical treatise on photography, complete exposition of the processes related to the daguerreotype. Paris : J.-J. Dubochet et Ce, 1844. - In-8, brown basane, cold rocaille irons and gilt fillet framing the boards, smooth spine decorated, speckled edges (period binding). First edition of this rare treatise "including the preparation and use of all accelerating substances, the use of continuator glasses, the rules to be observed for the proper execution of photogenic portraits, the reproduction of prints by electroplating, the recipes for operating on paper the chemical engraving, coloring etc.; followed by a thorough description of his new method for working with silver bath" (title). The author of this work was Marc-Antoine Auguste Gaydin (1804-1880), chemist, inventor and calculator of the Bureau des Longitudes. He was one of the promoters of the daguerreotype which he discovered in 1839. copy in a contemporary binding, including this handwritten note on the first white cover: "Charles Jules Lange // Constantinople au mois de Juillet // 1845" . The copy also includes two old stamps of the library of the city of Petit-Quevilly ", on the first blank page, on the title and page 51. Significant wear to the binding, some spotting, wear to the head cover, blow on the upper edge of the second plate, corners slightly dull . Scattered foxing.
