* [LANGLÉ (Ferdinand) - MORICE (Émile)]. The Juggler's Historial. French Chronicles and Legends. Paris: Librairie de Firmin Didot, 1829. - In-8, eggplant glazed calf, cold rolled and gilt filleted border and cold cathedral plate surrounded by cold filleting and gilt filleting in the center of the boards, ornate ribbed spine, gilt filleting inside, slipcase (period binding). First edition entirely printed in gothic type by Firmin Didot, of this collection of tales supposedly from the Middle Ages, ending with the Dict des Crieries et Encombrements de Paris in verse, whose situations and events, both tasty and often playful, are clarified by abundant notes accompanied by a glossary. The texts are by Ferdinand Langlé and Émile Morice, presented on the title as the editors of the book. The edition is illustrated in the first printing with vignettes, initials and fleurons imitating medieval manuscripts, attributed to Henri Monnier and Eugène Lami. A very nice copy in a cathedral binding of the period, including the compositions and the colored and gilt lettering. It comes from the prestigious library of René Descamps-Scrive. Binding perfectly preserved, the case is later. The first two endpapers and the false title are unbound. Provenance: René Descamps-Scrive, with ex-libris (cat. II, 1925, n° 356). - Laurent Meeûs, with bookplate. - Doctor A. Roudinesco, with bookplate (cat. I, 30 May 1967, n° 61). - Bourlon de Rouvre, with bookplate.
