[ROUEN]. Rouen illustrated by P. Allard, Abbé A. Loth, Vicomte R. d'Estaintot, Paul Baudry, N. Beaurain, J. Adeline, J. Félix, L. Palustre, de Beaurepaire, F. Fouquet. Introduction by Charles Deslys. Twenty-four etchings by Jules Adeline, Brunet-Debaisne, E. Nicolle and H. Toussaint. Rouen : E. Augé, 1880. - In-folio, red half-maroquin with corners, spine gilt, untrimmed, delivery covers preserved (early 20th century binding). Collective work of great luxury, printed at 180 copies, dedicated to the beauties of Rouen, that the editor Augé presents as a "work of science and devotion" to the Norman capital. After a warning by the editor Augé and an introduction by Charles Deslys, there is a succession of texts by different authors, dealing respectively with the crypts (Paul Allard), the cathedral (Abbé A. Loth), Saint-Ouen (Robert d'Estaintot), Saint-Maclou (Paul Baudry), Saint-Vincent (Narcisse Beaurain), the towers of Saint-André & Saint-Laurent (Jules Adeline), the Hôtel du Bourgtheroulde (Léon Palustre), the courthouse (J. Félix), the Court of Auditors (A. de Beaurepaire), and the old town hall (F. Bouquet). The work ends with a suite of 24 very beautiful etched plates by Jules Adeline, Brunet-Debaisne, E. Nicolle and H. Toussaint, including a title and 3 leaves of tables. ONE OF THE FIRST 30 COPIES INCLUDING 3 STATES OF THE ETCHINGS, on chine before the letter, on chine pastedown before the letter and on laid paper, this one enriched with the covers of the issues printed in blue. Some wear to the binding, otherwise a very well preserved copy.
