Valentin HAUŸ (1745-1822) pedagogue, founder of the Institut national des jeunes aveugles. Autograph manuscript signed (in the title), June 4, 1810; 1 page and a quarter in-fol. (43 x 22 cm) on 2 glued sheets. Freemasonry. Very rare manuscript by Valentin Hauÿ, titled: "Canticle sung by F∴ Val∴ Haüy, on the occasion of the favor done him by the R∴ des amis réunis in admitting him to the number of its honorary members, this 4th day of the 6th month of the year 5810 of the V∴ L∴." Musical manuscript of 35 bars, notated on a staff, with lyrics below 3 couplets, plus 3 couplets added to the bottom of the sheet and on the reverse (the latter with erasures and corrections); "Thanks forever be to thee, Alexander, by every Mason! Of the lost happiness You give him back the possession, Hardly entered the career, his works were suspended. You make him see the light again [...] Coming from the East of France / To the East of the Neva / I owe only to their indulgence / These jewels with which she adorned me "... Very rare masonic and musical manuscript of Valentin Haüy (we know the influence that music had on him, and its importance in his pedagogy). In 1806, he left for Russia at the request of Tsar Alexander I in order to found a school for the blind, which he was to direct for eleven years.
