medicine. Jacques-François DUNAND (1748-1823)... - Lot 325 - Ader
medicine. Jacques-François DUNAND (1748-1823) physician, mayor of Tournus. Autograph manuscript signed, Observations de Médecine sur les fièvres intermittentes ; méthode curative de ces fièvres..., 1788 ; 375 pages small in-4, bound in half tan basane with a red calf title on the spine (covers a bit worn). Translation from Latin by Jacques-François Dunand, "doctor of the Hôtel-Dieu of Tournus", of Observationes medicinales de febribus intermittentibus et qua ratione eisdem medendum sit by Carl Strack, professor of the clinical college of the University of Mainz, work crowned by the Academy of Dijon, on August 11, 1782, and published in Offenbach in 1785. These Observations are preceded by an "Epistle of the author to the Academy of Sciences, Arts and Belles-lettres of Dijon" in which Strack expresses reservations about the systematic use of cinchona: "I remain convinced that I can only do better by imitating the ancient physicians who were deprived of the resource of cinchona, that is to say, that I will modestly follow nature rather than indiscriminately opposing the specific to any kind of intermittent fever"...
