Jeanne d'albret (1528-1572) Queen of Navarre; daughter of Ki - Lot 457
Jeanne d'albret (1528-1572) Queen of Navarre; daughter of King Henri II d'Albret and Marguerite d'Angoulême, niece of François I, she married (1548) Antoine de Bourbon (1518-1562) and inherited the kingdom of Navarre; she was the mother of Henri IV. L.A.S. "Jehanne de Navarre", [La Fère late 1551], to her aunt Antoinette de Bourbon, duchess of Guise; 1 page folio, address (small wetness affecting the signature). Beautiful and rare letter for the baptism of her eldest son, Henri de Bourbon, duke of Beaumont, born on September 21, 1551; he will die in 1553, four months before the birth of Henri IV. She was very happy to receive his letter and "to see that my request that I had made to you to come to the baptism of my son was granted and I assure you my aunt that there will be no one from whom I value and appreciate the presence more than you, imploring you once again not to forget and to continue this good will and for what I say that you will be very happy to know of our news I can assure you the health of my husband and my son is good. The aforementioned gentleman recommended me to give you his humble recommendations to your good graces and he was very happy to have seen your letter promising to come. We are in this place of La Fere for our feast day with my brother the prince and my beautiful sister where I have wished you well my aunt. As far as I know, my son will be baptized in one month or six weeks...
