LYON. Manuscript, Agenda du Bureau de l'hôpital général de l - Lot 487
LYON. Manuscript, Agenda du Bureau de l'hôpital général de la Charité et Aumône générale de Lyon, [ca. 1765]; one volume in-fol. (40 x 25 cm) of 36 ff. (and a few blank ff.), contemporary binding in brown speckled basane (a little worn). Interesting document on the functioning of the hospital of La Charité in Lyon. The manuscript, carefully copied, has been overwritten with corrections and additions in the margins, by several hands. The first 10 pages detail the general functioning of the Bureau, under the orders of the Procurator, and the charges incumbent on the Rectors. This is followed by details, month by month, from January to December, of the ceremonies, quests and various tasks devolved to the members of the Bureau. The numerous additions, often very long, are intended to clarify the regulations or to update them. Thus: "Mrs. Rectors distributing will not be able to propose other old men & women, that those who will have reached the age of seventy years old, the infirmities whatever they are will not be able to supplement the age; these Gentlemen will be charged to propose to the Bureau the reception of the abandoned children in the extension of their distribution. No one can be received in the body of the little passers-by without the Rector in charge of taking information having first made his report to the assembled Bureau which will decide alone if the proposed child is in the case of being received, and the act will not be signed without this formality. The Rectors in charge of making the information for the adoptions are subject to the same rule; they will not be able to deviate from it in any way"...
