First edition of this famous mystical book composed by the Jesuit Father Antoine Sucquet (1574-1627). The scenes that these engravings represent, show torments, martyrdoms, etc., often embellished with imaginary and monstrous creatures. A copy in an 18th century binding, restored to the headpieces, the spines and the corners. Margins a little short, with damage to several current titles. The first two leaves of the text have a shorter margin. Sparse spotting. Provenance: eighteenth-century handwritten bookplate crossed out on endpapers. - Brussels library label.
