[PERFUMERY] - PLANCHAIS. Book of recipes... - Lot 76 - Ader
[PERFUMERY] - PLANCHAIS. Book of recipes for perfumery. [Paris : 1850 and following years]. - Manuscript in-12, half brown calf, gilt roulette on the boards, smooth spine decorated (period binding). Precious book of perfumery recipes from the second half of the 19th century, established by the Parisian perfumer Planchais. The latter held the house Gray created in 1847. The laboratory was located in Colombes but the store was located at 2 then 43 rue Caumartin in Paris. Planchais remained known for the invention of its water of flower of lily for the dye. The manuscript consists of 264 handwritten pages, offering several hundred recipes. These were written by several hands, including that of Planchais, and at different times. Some pages have been added, others removed. We can note the following recipes: fragrant honey water, extract of Mousseline, pastilles to be burned, violet ointment, beef marrow ointment for summer, "charcoal" powder with cinchona, rose milk, coral powder for the teeth, orange flower water "for the vapors and malignancies of the humors", honey water to make the hair grow, virginal milk for the toilet, orange flower ratafia with champagne wine, etc. We did not find the one for lily flower water. In addition to these recipes, the manuscript includes at the end, on nearly 20 pages, observations "on the origin of various (sic) substances (sic) suitable for the manufacture". The first endpaper bears this indication, probably in Planchais's hand: "Planchais Parfumeur 2 rue Caumartin Paris 1847" Binding damaged
