ERNST (Max). Œuvres de 1919 à 1936. paris : Cahiers d'art, [1937]. - In-4, paperback, filled cover. First edition of the first important monograph on Max Ernst. Beginning with a text by Max Ernst on himself and his art, covering the first 46 pages, the work is composed of texts and poems by André Breton, Paul Éluard, Benjamin Péret, Joë Bousquet, Georges Ribemont-Dessaignes, Jean de Bosschère, Jacques Viot, René Crevel, Georges Hugnet, Herbert Read, Louis Aragon, Claude Cahun, Tristan Tzara and Robert Desnos. Another text by Max Ernst in English, entitled "Inspiration to order", appears on pages 70-74. The edition is illustrated with numerous black reproductions of the artist's works and three color reproductions pasted on . A very well preserved copy, enriched with an original unsigned photogram by Max Ernst, mounted on grey paper. Representing Cynthia, it is extracted from the book " Mr. Knife, Miss Fork " by René Crevel, published in 1931 by Black Sun Press.
