Paul AUDRA (1891-1981). L.A.S., Valence August... - Lot 1 - Ader
Paul AUDRA (1891-1981). L.A.S., Valence August 24, 1905, to Georges Desvallières; 4 pages in-8. Interesting letter about the organization of the next Salon d'Automne, where, fearing the lack of space, he hesitates to send his portrait "of my friend the poet Louis Le Cardonnel," because he is anxious to exhibit "a portrait of a woman in black (a study of lust), quite large [...]. I also wish to send a head of a young whore, whose empty expression is quite interesting. Would there also be room for "a large stained glass window representing Music and Dance which measures 5 m wide and 2m80 high"... He waits for Desvallières' answer to decide... He asks if Rouault is in Paris, and for news "of your illustration of Rolla"... He speaks with great sadness of the state of health of his poor wife, who seems to have lost her mind, but whom he cares for with love, and prays to God: "in the worst moments of pain I thank him for having made me a painter, because only an artist knows how to perceive the unchanging and serene essence of a soul that has been troubled by illness"...
