Francis PICABIA (1879-1953). 6 L.A.S., Mougins... - Lot 29 - Ader
Francis PICABIA (1879-1953). 6 L.A.S., Mougins October 1927-March 1937, [to Robert Briant]; 1 page in-8 or in-4 each, one on the letterhead of the Château de Mai, Mougins. Interesting correspondence to a collector and gallery owner friend (from Galerie Briant-Robert, 7 rue d'Argenteuil). October 1, 1927, he will return to Paris on October 7 and will pass by rue d'Argenteuil. Pierre Legrain "had to finish the small frames". - November 29, on the Surrealist Gallery [created in 1926 at the instigation of the Surrealist group] to which he indicated that he was linked for a year with Briant: "if they want to take firm paintings that's fine, but I don't advise you to take deposits"; he recommends keeping Marcel Noll's letter. January 28, 1929, he warns Briant against a certain P.M.: "I have had very precise information on him, he has just been fined three million for fraud, etc. He gave P. Legrain a lot of money, but he was not able to get it. He gave P. Legrain a bad check. As we are in the process of arranging his affairs, we must show you, register you among the creditors, in short, find out more". His son Lorenzo is "very ill, it has been snowing for a week, there are few people in Cannes, I work a lot, I intend to send you four paintings soon. If you have money for me, don't forget me (life is very expensive even if you live simply)"... - August 16, he acknowledges receipt of a check for 3,000 francs and can wait until September and the visit of his friend in Mougins to receive the other 3,000 francs: "Couldn't you come before the first of the month because I have to send three paintings to Léonce R. [Rosenberg]. I would have liked to show them to you. We have a delicious weather, you who love the sea, I am looking forward to the baths that we will take together"... Yacht "L'Horizon" port of Golfe Juan March 7, 1937, condolences after having learned the terrible news concerning his friend. Château de Mai n.d. "Magnificent success, 16 paintings sold"...
