Stephen STORACE (1762-1796). Engraved score... - Lot 94 - Ader
Stephen STORACE (1762-1796). Engraved score with autograph signature, Captivity. A Ballad... (London, Printed by the Author, & sold by J. Dale); 2 pages folio, inside a bifeuillet in a bound booklet. Rare score of an aria in homage to Marie-Antoinette, signed by the composer at the bottom of the 2nd page. The English commentary under the title states that this ballad is supposed to be sung by the unfortunate Marie-Antoinette, during her imprisonment in the Temple. The lyrics are by the Reverend Mr. Jeans, Dibden, Hants. This aria was sung by Signorina Storace and Mrs Crouch. Stephen Storace studied with Mozart, who worked with his sister Nancy Storace (who created the role of Susanna in the Marriage of Figaro). Nancy Storace sang this Captivity, with mezzo-soprano Anna Maria Crouch, at concerts given by her brother Stephen at the Drury Lane Theatre in London from 1792 to 1794.
