Victor HUGO. Autograph Apostille signed at... - Lot 155 - Ader
Victor HUGO. Autograph Apostille signed at the head of a L.S. from Henri Nadaud de Buffon (1831-1890), June 6, 1880; 3 pages in-4 on the letterhead of the Société des Hospitaliers Sauveteurs Bretons. Nadaud de Buffon, president of the Société des Hospitaliers Sauveteurs Bretons, writes to Senator Victor Hugo to thank him for his authorization to "publish an album of romances on verses of yours, for the benefit of the Breton rescuers [...] The Bretons are particularly fond of you, Mr. Senator, because you love the sea and sailors [...] It is as a token of their feelings for the illustrious writer, the great Frenchman and the great patriot, that they charge me [...] to give you their humble medal. It is currently worn by more than three thousand sailors [...] and there is more than one cemetery in Brittany, where it can be found on graves, because each year the storm leaves gaps among us. This year it took only seven comrades from us and left us with twenty-two orphans. .... Etc. At the top, Victor Hugo inscribed, "At your feet, my lady. V.H." (transmitting letter and medal to Juliette Drouet). 6 L.A.S. from Catulle MENDÈS, 1904-1908, to the music publisher Henri Heugel, about his work as a librettist, especially for Massenet and Messager.
