Paul VERLAINE (1844-1896). L.A.S., Hôpital Cochin July 15, 1890, to his friend [Edmond Lepelletier]; 2 pages in-12 in pencil on administrative paper. Letter from the Cochin Hospital. Hospitalized at Cochin, Verlaine wishes to spend some time in the fresh air of Bougival, where his friend Edmond Le Pelletier (1846-1913) was deputy mayor. He also worries to know if Lepelletier has recovered his letters and verses from London (where he stayed in 1872-1873 with Rimbaud), then evokes the publication of his collection Dédicaces. "Did you receive my letter of some time ago? [...] It naturally came back to me by mail [...] It "marked" my desire of an answer, particularly to the question of a small holiday in your Bougival following your so gracious offer, provided however that there was no encumbrance yours. I confirm you this unfortunate missive. A small air of countryside would make me the greatest good and would allow me to finish great works which must, finally! to release me from embarrassment! Besides, I hope to have finished soon with this misery of five years"... He adds in margin: "Did you find my letters of London and my verses on June 1872 published in London? Opposite a sonnet from the Savine edition, (in press) of Dedications ".
