INDOCHINA. Manuscript, History of the life of the great Genie of Bac Ninh ong Thanh Dong, commonly known as Thanh Giong or in characters as Dông Thiên Vuong, 19th c., notebook of 9 pages small in-fol. This manuscript tells the story of one of the main deities of Vietnamese mythology, that of a three-year-old child who lived in Phu Dong, near Hanoi, during the reign of the 6th king Hung. The country was threatened by Chinese warriors, so the child took the lead of the army, repulsed the enemies, then flew to heaven. King Hung, in recognition of the services rendered, ordered the construction of a temple in his honor and conferred upon him the title of Phu Dông Thiên Vuong (His Celestial Royal Highness of Phu Dong). Eight episodes concerning this divinity are reported here, in approximate French: "The King of Hung Vuong sent his ambassadors to go in search of the one who will be able to make himself master to these warlike warriors. The King's ambassadors arrived at Phu Dong. The Dông Thiên Vuong was 3 years old, lying on a bed of bamboo said to the ambassadors when one will have provided me with an iron horse and a saber I will make myself master to the warlike warriors ".... The other episodes take place under the 1st and 2nd Le dynasties (between 980 and 1788), then under the Nguyen dynasty (1802-1945). At the end it is specified that the text is a true copy established by Nguyen Hui Thien, of the huyen (district) of Tiên Do. A text printed in Chinese characters is attached (sewn notebook of 6 p. small in-fol.on rice paper).
