Antoinette Poisson, marquise de POMPADOUR... - Lot 319 - Ader
Antoinette Poisson, marquise de POMPADOUR (1721-1764). L.A.S. "La M. de Pompadour", November 19, 1754; 1 1/2 pages in-4. On the Order of Malta. About a letter concerning an admission in the Order of Malta, she makes two reflections... "The first, that having been my gentleman, cannot harm Mr. d'Hennin to enter the Order of Malta, since there is more than one example of dear ones who are admitted, whose fathers had belonged to court ladies, and even titled names. The second, that to serve the king at table is a very great honor, and that it is usually the governors of the royal houses who are in possession of it, mr. the bailly of St. Simon cannot say what he saw at my table, since he has never been there. Here, Sir, is what I thought necessary to tell you, asking you to warn the Grand Master; and to ask him not to make a decision on this matter without being informed by you.
