Portrait of 'Abbas Mirza, Iran qâjâr, late 19th - early 20th century Gouache and gold on paper on the back of a Persian manuscript folio of twenty-five lines divided into four columns inscribed in black ink in nasta'liq, a title in a cartouche in red ink. The prince is standing in front of a low wall surmounted by windows opening onto a landscape. He is dressed in a long orange cloak and armed with a sword and a jambiyya slung on his belt. In the upper right corner, an inscription in Persian ink identifying the subject. 30.9 x 22.2 cm Folds, stains, restorations. 'Abbas Mirza (1789-1833) was the son and heir apparent of Fath 'Ali Shah Qâjâr who was one of the first to want to reform and modernize Iran.
