Miniature Qur'an, Iran qâjâr, signed and dated 1253 H / 1837 Small manuscript on paper of eighteen lines per page in Arabic in naskhi calligraphy with black ink in reserve on a gold background. Manuscript introduced by four double-pages illuminated with gold and polychrome, the first giving the summary, the titles of suras inscribed in a checkerboard surrounded by a beautiful floral margin resumed on the second decorated with two medallions polylobed with appendices inscribed with a prayer, The third is a double-frontispiece in unwâns surmounted by lambrequins decorated with flowers, the Fatiha and the beginning of the sura al-Baqqara inscribed in reserve on a gold background, the fourth with a text in reserve on a gold background, a frieze of palmettes and fleurons in the margin. Titles of suras inscribed in red ink in gilt cartouches and some illuminated marginal medallions. Colophon giving the name of the copyist Muhammad Baqir ibn Muhammad Hashim and dated Sunday, 4 Safar 1253 / 1837. Front binding in papier-mâché painted and lacquered with a floral decoration of roses and eglantines on the red background of the boards, daffodils and eglantines in gold on the black background of the back boards. The boards are inscribed with the name Sahib al-Zaman and the date 1214 H / 1799. Size of the binding : 11,3 x 7,2 cm Some stains, polychromy leaks, damaged binding (one plate detached).
