Miniature Qur'an, Iran qâjâr, second half of the 19th century Small manuscript on paper of eighteen lines per page in Arabic in naskhi calligraphy in black ink on a gold background. Manuscript introduced by three double-pages illuminated with gold and polychrome, the first giving the summary, the titles of suras inscribed in a checkerboard surrounded by a beautiful floral margin resumed on the second decorated with two medallions polylobed with appendices inscribed with a prayer, the third constituting the double-frontispiece in unwâns surmounted by mantling trimmed with flowers, the Fatiha and the beginning of the second sura al-Baqqara inscribed in reserve on a gold background. Titles of suras inscribed in red ink in gilt cartouches and some illuminated marginal medallions. Bound in painted and lacquered papier-mâché with a floral decoration of roses and eglantines on the boards, daffodils and eglantines on the back covers. Red leather case with gilded frames and interior covered with ebru paper. Dim. binding : 11,5 x 7,6 cm ; dim. total : 10,2 x 6,6 cm Some wear, small tears and light restorations, small stains, binding partly reverted, wear of the case.
