Miniature Qur'an, Iran qâjâr, second half of the 19th century
Small manuscript on paper of eighteen lines per page in Arabic in naskhi calligraphy in black ink on a gold background. Manuscript introduced by three double-pages illuminated with gold and polychrome, the first giving the summary, the titles of suras inscribed in a checkerboard surrounded by a beautiful floral margin resumed on the second decorated with two medallions polylobed with appendices inscribed with a prayer, the third constituting the double-frontispiece in unwâns surmounted by mantling trimmed with flowers, the Fatiha and the beginning of the second sura al-Baqqara inscribed in reserve on a gold background. Titles of suras inscribed in red ink in gilt cartouches and some illuminated marginal medallions. Bound in painted and lacquered papier-mâché with a floral decoration of roses and eglantines on the boards, daffodils and eglantines on the back covers. Red leather case with gilded frames and interior covered with ebru paper.

Some wear, small tears and light restorations, small stains, binding partly reverted, wear of the case.
