Portrait of a man with a purple jama, Mughal India, 18th century Pigments and gold on paper depicting a full-length man facing left. He is wearing a white turban with a checkerboard pattern and a mauve jama with a white and gold sash, over gold and orange striped pants. He holds a sarpush in his right hand and is armed with a talwar in his left hand and a katar tucked into his belt. Painting mounted on album page with later double framing of gold interlacing on blue and beige paper and wide beige margin speckled with gold. On the back, annotations 72 and 72 / 27A and seal of Mirza Asaf ud-Daula dated 1182 H / 1768. Page size 58.8 x 43 cm; painting on view: 18.1 x 10.6 cm Chips and wear.
