Portrait of a notable, Mughal India, probably 18th century Pigments and gold on paper depicting a full-length notable facing right. He is wearing an orange turban and a white jama over blue pants and is holding a green item in his hands, probably an areca nut from which he has detached a piece to eat. Painting mounted on an album page with a gold floral border on beige paper and a wide margin of green paper painted with gold hatayi scrolls. On the back, this marginal decoration continues on beige paper framing a calligraphic composition of a quatrain in nasta'liq in black ink on a background of golden flowers, the spandrels illuminated in gold and polychrome, a fleuron for one, an inscription in reserve giving the name of the calligrapher Muhammad Husayn. Dim. page at sight : 31 x 18,8 cm ; painting at sight : 13 x 7 cm Some worm holes, wear, trace of tearing in the upper part of the reverse.
