Portrait of Mirza Sohrab, India, Kishangarh, late 18th century Drawing heightened with pigments and gold on paper depicting a full-length man standing on a lawn, dressed all in white. He has a graying beard and is armed with a khanjar slipped into his belt, a talwar held in his left hand and a rondache. Mounted on an album page and framed with a green border and a salmon margin speckled with gold. On the back, ink inscription of eight lines of nagari, four lines of Persian nasta'liq identifying the subject as the grandfather of Nawab Mahabat Khan who served Emperor 'Azam Shah (r. 1707). Pencilled annotation in English translating this information. Page size: 26.3 x 18.6 cm; painting size: 14.5 x 9.1 cm Some folds, stains, one corner damaged.
