Scenes of Hunting and Piety, India, Deccan, ca. 1700 Pigments and gold on paper depicting in the foreground a rider hunting heron with a falcon, his groom running beside him. In the background, a group of four women are meditating and praying to Shiva near a small aedicula housing a lingam. In the distance, several animated shots of men and animals. 33 x 21.3 cm Wear, folds, jumps in polychromy. This painting is part of the production of full-page equestrian portraits that developed in the Deccan in the early 18th century. This portrait could be compared to the portrait of Ali Asghar Khan Bahadur in the Rietberg Museum in Zurich (RVI 828) where the rider also rides a prancing horse, hunts with a falcon and is surrounded by marching figures. A Piety and Hunting Scene, India, Deccan, c. 1700 Private collection in Paris from 1975 to 2000 - first part (lots 120 to 173).
