Shushana bridal tunic, Tunisia, late 19th - early 20th century
Split tunic made up of various yokes sewn together: the first, textile ribbons woven with polychrome silk threads forming a geometric decoration of chevrons alternating with strips of brown velvet embroidered with silver threads forming a compartmentalized decoration incorporating rosettes, medallions of concentric circles, and plant motifs. At the front, central breastplate entirely embroidered with silver thread of a decoration in several registers alternating rosettes and arcatures. Red textile inserts highlighting the body, shoulders marked with yellow textile cuffs embroidered with silver thread. Pale yellow textile lining.
Height: 108 cm; length: 90 cm
Some wear, a few loose elements, a tear in the lining.
