Large hadj vase, Tunisia, Nabeul, El-Kharraz workshop, attributed to Hassen el-Kharraz, circa 1920-40
Vase with a high arched body topped by a cylindrical neck flanked by two flat winged handles. Earthenware with painted decoration in several registers of geometrical friezes of vertical bands, rhombuses, chevrons, ocelli framing two bands of tawqs necklaces decorated with dots. Floral scrolls on the handles and base of the body inscribed in Arabic: "Tadhkar Nabeul" / "Souvenir de Nabeul" and "El-Kharraz Nabeul". Under the base, stamped in hollow: Hassen [?] el-Kharraz.
