François Chauveau (1613-1676 )Tableau des... - Lot 10 - Ader
François Chauveau (1613-1676 )Tableau des principaux mystères du très st sacrement, sacrifice et sacerdoce de l'Eucharistie... 1676. Engraved after Bertolet [Bertholet Flémal]. 720 x 1113. I.F.F. 133. Good proof in two pieces, on laid paper, with numerous accidents (folds, holes, fractures, stains, small losses at the edges...), canvas-backed and restored, stretched by the upper edge on original wood moulding, used as an educational panel. Although the Inventory of the French Collection announces this engraving as missing from its collections, the National Library has it in two unbound pieces (provenance: abbé de Marolles). We thank Mrs. Vanessa Selbach for this information. The painting by B. Flémal or Flemalle, entitled Triumph and Revelation of the Mystery of the Blessed Sacrament linked to that of the Trinity, is kept in the Louvre: "Rich and learned iconography - no doubt intended by those who commissioned the painting, the Augustinians of the convent from which it comes - showing the Body and Blood of Christ adored by saints and prefigured by various sacrifices of the Old Testament. - Probably to be dated from the artist's first stays in Paris, ca. 1646-1647."
