JACQUELINE LERAT (1920-2009) - COLLECTION LERATTrace verte, 1981Sculpture . Stoneware, enamel, slip. Signed J.J. LERAT, in incised letters towards the baseHeight : 47 cm - Length : 31 cmProvenance : Lerat Collection . Exhibition : Jacqueline Lerat - La Borne, Centre de Céramique contemporaine, from September 4 to October 5, 2010. Reproduced in the catalog on page 88. note: This work is referenced under no. 213 in the Lerat archives. [With this sculpture, Jacqueline Lerat questions three questions that have preoccupied her since the beginning. If she abandons the idea of any use, she retains a form that leans on the ground, that has a volume and breathes with an opening and a carefully worked seat . It expresses what Bernard Noël will develop in his text of 1994 (Jean, and Jacqueline Lerat; Le Cercle d'Art). The second question is that of the color which is there strongly expressed and imposes itself to the spectator. It is since its beginning a haunting question: What to do with the color? The color and the enamels which are the support can be the best of the things as the worst. Indeed, they open the way to the ease of expression, a reproach that is often made to the decorative ceramics. In La Borne, the war period was marked by shortages. The young generation of the 1950s, which has access to all possible glazes, is wary of this ease. It notes the drift of traditional potters of La Borne, stores on the side of the road, or even Vallauris, Then comes the question of the meaning it wants to give to this work]. F.L.
