Anna LESZNAI (1885-1966) Calendar of friendly monsters for Lucienne, 1963 47 gouaches in a notebook. 28,5 x 23 (dimensions of the notebook). Calendar made for Lucienne Estival Grandgérard (1896-1975). Anna Leznai was born in 1885 in the Austro-Hungarian Empire. She studied applied arts in Budapest with Sándor Bihari and then in Paris with Lucien Simon. She became an honorary member of the Eight, a group of Hungarian artists founded in Budapest in 1909 and including artists like Béla Czóbel and Ödön Márffy. A painter and poet at the same time, memories of Körtvélyes' fairy world populate her tales for adults and children. Her embroideries and title pages in the style of the new Magyar folk art are also a rich source of inspiration.
