[ROTHSCHILD FAMILY] ZADOC KAHN. Funeral oration of Madame Baroness James de Rothschild dowager delivered at the Israelite temple in the rue de la victoire on September 9, 1886 [9 Elul 5646]. [Paris : printed by Cerf et fils, 1886]. - In-8, black morocco, cold fillet framing the boards, spine ribbed, triple gilt fillet framing the inside, purple moiré silk lining and endpapers, gilt edges (Ch. De Haas). Very rare first edition of the funeral oration delivered by the chief rabbi of Paris Zadoc Kahn, celebrating the life of Baroness James (Betty) de Rothschild, the wife of the founder of the French branch of the Rothschild family. Her daughter, Charlotte, married her first cousin Nathaniel from the English branch. Betty de Rothschild was the great-grandmother of Baron Henri de Rothschild. Binding faded, significant damage to the spine, first cover unraveled. Attached: - MORGAND AND FATOUT. Baron James de Rothschild. 1844-1881. S.l., [1881]. - Booklet in-8, black morocco, gilt tear on the corners of the boards, gilt bookplate of James de Rothschild reproduced in the center of the first board, spine decorated with nerves, gilt lace inside, gilt edges (A. Motte). Offprint of the tribute paid by the booksellers Morgand and Fatout to James de Rothschild who had just died. It is illustrated with an engraved portrait of the latter. A copy by the bookbinder Alphonse Motte, very well bound by him and enriched with an autograph letter signed by the authors on the cover. The portrait is in a state before the letter.
