Robert LEFÈVRE (Bayeux 1755 - Paris 1830), Nicolas-Charles Oudinot, Duke of Reggio, Marshal of France, 1810 Original canvas Inscribed in brown ink on the stretcher: "Mr Robert Lefevre / 1810" and "9 March 1831 / 158fr". 32,5 x 24,1 cm (Tension bands) Provenance: - Sale of paintings, studies, sketches by Robert Lefèvre, Paris, March 7-9, 1831, no. 85, sold to Peltz, most likely on behalf of the Duke of Reggio. - Kept until recently by the descendants of the marshal in the castle of Malicorne (Sarthe). Our portrait of the man who was nicknamed "The Bayard of the French Army" is a sketch of the painting commissioned by Napoleon I in 1809 to decorate the walls of the marshals' room in the Tuileries Palace (Versailles, Musée du Château). It is part of a vast program of representation of the marshals of the empire for which Lefèvre had already painted in 1805 The Portrait of the Duke of Castiglione (Versailles, Musée du Château). A ricordo of this portrait has passed for sale in Paris (Hôtel Drouot, Me Brissonneau, November 28, 2014, no. 211).
