Auguste-Xavier LEPRINCE (Paris (?), 1799... - Lot 45 - Ader
Auguste-Xavier LEPRINCE (Paris (?), 1799 - Nice, 1826) The Corpus Christi Procession, 1820 Panel Signed and dated lower left: "A.X. Leprince. 1820". 11,9 x 14,9 cm Provenance: Aguttes sale, Paris, l'Hôtel Drouot, February 26, 2014, no. 31. Auguste Xavier Leprince comes from a family of landscape painters. We can relate his work to that of Louis-Léopold Boilly, for his taste for modern subjects and for picturesque details. He won his first medal at the 1819 Salon. In 1824, Auguste Xavier Leprince stayed with Eugène Isabey in Honfleur. At the 1824 Salon, the Duchess of Berry bought The Skaters and at the 1826 Salon, Charles X became the owner of two paintings, The Embarkation of Cattle in the Passage at Honfleur and The Passage at Susten.
