HERMANN PAUL - VILLON (François). Works of François Villon. Edition decorated with woodcuts by Hermann Paul. Paris : Léon Pichon, 1912. - In-4, 285 x 190 : 113 pp, (3 ff. the last blank), printed cover. In sheets, filled cover, folder and slipcase covered with black and mustard coated paper. Superb edition reproducing "the text of the collection of French Classics of the Middle Ages established by Auguste Longnon and revised by Mr. Lucien Foulet". It is illustrated with 107 woodcut frames by HERMANN-PAUL (1864-1940), sometimes of rather free inspiration. ONE OF THE HEADERS ON TURKEY MILL VELIN, this one not numbered but specially printed for the illustrator, including a double suite of proofs of the 107 engravings, one on Japan paper, the second on China paper, as well as a suite of proofs of the woodcuts on chine. Each suite is preserved in a printed cover with flaps. The copy is also enriched with an original unpublished drawing made with wash, signed in the lower left corner with the artist's monogram. Spine of the book skilfully redone. Freckles to the suites on chine. Tear without missing at the last plate of the first suite on chine, reaching slightly the engraving.
