James Abbott MacNeill WHISTLER (1834-1903).... - Lot 32 - Ader
James Abbott MacNeill WHISTLER (1834-1903). L.A., signed with his monogram with butterfly, s.l.n.d., [to Robert de Montesquiou]; 1 1/2 oblong pages in-8 (trace of tab; small red stamp of Montesquiou). About a letter he does not know to whom to address: "Please decipher the distinguished name of my correspondent, which hides from me his official title and his functions. Help me - and God will forgive you! Put everything on the envelope and send my letter to its destination. [...] Let us be indiscreet [...] and we will see - after the time required by decency, which we know - to appear in the Figaro a copy of this naive declaration, for the joy of some, and the perplexity of a People! 5 drawings by Mrs. Whistler, illustrating a letter about Murano vases (2 pages in-8, stamped with Montesquiou's ink) are attached.
