Paul de Saint-Aignan, duc de BEAUVILLIER... - Lot 255 - Ader
Paul de Saint-Aignan, duc de BEAUVILLIER (1648-1714) duke and peer, first gentleman of the King's chamber, head of the royal council of finance; governor of the duke of Burgundy, he took Fenelon as his tutor. P.A., [16 August 1689]; 2 1/2 pages in-8 (the signature, begun, has been crossed out; the bottom of the 2nd leaf is missing without loss of text). Interesting relation of his interview with the King about the preceptors of the dukes of Burgundy, Anjou and Berry, and the choice of Fénelon. "If I have understood correctly what the King has told me, his intention is to send to Mr. Abbé de Fennelon provisions for the tutor of the Duke of Berry to Mrs. de Denonville and de Saumery provisions of sub governors to mr. l'abbé de Fleury of sub tutor and to me of governor similar to those which were dispatched for M. the duke of Anjou and all with the same clause of exemption of new oath. There will be to expedite a patent to mr. the abbot of Langeron of reader of M. the duke of Berry. There will be no new salaries [...] in addition to that there will be provisions to be issued to Mr. Marquis de Razilly, lieutenant of the king of Tourraine, to be sub-governor of M. the duke of Burgundy, M. the duke of Anjou and M. the duke of Berry"; to the abbot of Beaumont as sub-preceptor; to the abbot Catelan as reader, etc.
